How Does The ZapNo Work?

Broadcast in the year 2002   (Brisbane Australia)

People often ask how the ZapNo works, so I will explain what the components are and how the device actually functions in relation to static electricity. First I need to point out that the ZapNo is designed with the following in consideration. Parents often give their keys to a child as a play thing, obviously the keys plus anything attached will end up being chewed on by the child. Each ZapNo is sealed for life as a single assembly, so it cannot be pulled apart by a child or even an adult, without using pretty specialised tools.

A strong 'keyring' is securely fastened to the 'top housing' to ensure the ZapNo cannot get removed from the main keyring without considerable force. The 'top and bottom housings' are permanently joined with a sturdy Injection moulded 'housing tube'. Inside the 'housing tube' is a 'resistor & neon circuit' assembly to assist in reducing high static energy.

In the final assembly stage, the outer diameters of the 'top and bottom housings' are crimped to a smaller diameter, ensuring a permanent fixture to the 'housing tube'.

Normally if you feel a static shock, you have generally accumulated an electrical energy build up on your person as you come into contact with synthetic materials such as shoes and clothing which have been rubbing together. Once a person has a build-up of static energy they will carry it with them until they come into contact with a metallic or conductive surface such as a door handle or a vehicle etc. At the exact moment your skin approaches the conductive surface to within a few millimetres, the energy jumps the gap between your skin and the conductor, causing a high temperature energy burst that can actually penetrate your skin or finger then into your softer tissue, that is why it is often painful.

A ZapNo "held firmly between your fingers" will create an improved barrier between your skin and the actual spark, this alone will reduce the likelihood you will feel such intense pain. The ZapNo 'resistor & neon circuit' further reduces high energy by converting it to heat. Finally the 'resistor & neon circuit' assembly is shorter than the 'top and bottom housings' to create a small air-gap at one or both ends, this further adds to the reduction of energy as the spark jumps more air gaps.

The ZapNo simply works as described in every detail and is genuinely on the market to benefit those who want to eliminate being zapped.
